2004: A Year In Review

(In no specific order)

Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez - A Manual Dexterity

Buying this record was almost an embarassment. Its gaudy, spangly, almost sequin adorned cover looks like something you would team with a leather codpiece, an 80's porn star moustache, and possibly The Darkness, none of which play a part in my day-to-day life. When compared to the album's dark and atmospheric content, it baffles the mind as to why such an un-subtle image was picked to grace its sleeve.

Interpol - Antics

Laziest cover art ever!

Say Anything - ..Is A Real Boy

I understand that this cover was supposed to bear some relevance to the record's Pinnochio-esque title, but to be honest, the only thing I can think of when I see it is wood, and I'm not talking about trees.

Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine

"..How about we have a cool porno chick with like, speakers coming out of her ass?" "Sweet idea! Let's hire a college graduate with photoshop to do it!" "Yeah! And we could mix it all up and place random pieces of crap all over it!" "I love it! Make sure the tits are prominent, though."

Atreyu - The Curse

Another sleeve with boobs on it. Only this time they're in the possession of a skanky looking vampire chick, with pointy fangs and everything. Chalk one up for lamecore

Special Mention:
The Libertines - S/T

Serving only to highlight the personalities that really made up this band, ignoring the 'lesser' members, and at the same time showing loyal fans exactly what the band would be spending the royalties on, this cover was basically an ego trip.

Predicted Worst Cover Art for 2005:

The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute

Yeah, this record isn't coming out till 2005, but it's safe to say that based on the bizarre artwork of 2003's De-Loused In The Comatorium, this art will be weirdly unappealing too.
