Scene Point Blank: What are your top five albums that were released in 2007?
- Big Business - Here Come the Waterworks
- Qui - Love's Holiday
- Oxbow - The Narcotic Story
- 27 - Holding on for Brighter Days
- Ghostface Killah - The Big Doe Rehab
Scene Point Blank: How will you remember 2007? (In terms of music)
As the year that Oxbow's "The Narcotic Story"'s producer Joe Chiccarelli was nominated for a Grammy for producing it.
Scene Point Blank: What kind of impact do you think donation-based releases like Radiohead, Saul Williams, etc? will have on the record industry?
In America? even worse than it has in Europe.
Scene Point Blank: 2007 saw the decommissioning of two prominent file-sharing groups - Demonoid and Oink. What kind of impact will the increased crackdown on file-sharing have on the record industry? Did it personally have an effect on you?
Oxbow sells very few records. However, as it stands now more people steal our music than pay for it. Cutting the head off of Demonoid and Oink might help, can't hurt. But sure as shit is no long-term solution.
But one thing should be clear: nobody's stealing music because they hate it. They like it and they want it. Perhaps every song on every CD should be interrupted by commercials though. Since commercial interests will pay for ears. And perhaps every CD of music should be very directly commercials for tampons, shaving cream, couches, and cars. It'd serve all of you trust fund fucks right.
Scene Point Blank: What can we look forward to from your band in 2008?
Mostly deep deep predation, along with a reissue of both "Fuckfest" and "King of the Jews," as well as a vinyl "The Narcotic Story," an audiobook of my book "Fight: Or Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass Kicking But Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked for Asking," and another European tour in the Spring.
Scene Point Blank: What three records are you looking forward to most in 2008?
None that I can think of. I mean, what's Morrissey done lately?
