Die Young (Daniel Truth)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2008?

  1. Disfear - Live the Storm
  2. My Brightest Diamond - A Thousand Shark's Teeth
  3. 7 Generations - To See the End
  4. Confronto - Sanctuarium
  5. Anchor - The Quiet Dance

What band did you discover in 2008 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

My Brightest Diamond. A woman with a beautiful voice backed by violins/cellos - what more needs to be said?

How will you remember 2008? (In terms of music)

Too much music to keep up with.

Vinyl record sales saw a significant increase this year while hard copy sales continued to dwindle. Is this a return to the glory days for vinyl or just a phase? Explain.

Eh, no clue. Nothing's too predictable when it comes to what people are going to buy considering "the economy." Vinyl may be "up" but I still doubt it is as popular as it once was.

What was the most memorable moment for you in 2008? (Can be in terms of anything)

In terms of shows: Die Young's set in Moscow, Russia back in October. Runner up: Will to Live's final set in Houston back in May (that was a HUGE deal for Texas hardcore). In terms of personal experience: I followed an octopus for about an hour in a tide pool in Puerto Rico. Some fish were trying to eat it or attack it. It was pretty intense.

What can we look forward to from you in 2009?

Nothing... seriously.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2009?

First and foremost, I am looking forward to Dead City's "Goddamn the 21st Century" on Thrashed Records. It should have come out in 2008, but people at every record label in hardcore (except Thrashed) are fucking sleeping on this band. Between Earth and Sky is also due out with something, so I've got my fingers crossed that it will still happen. And of course, I will be interested to hear the new Earth Crisis. It better not be a piece of dogshit like Slither. I loved everything (EVERYTHING) they did previous to that album, so if it is a return at all to the sound of any of their older records I will be more than satisfied. If Propagandhi is doing a new album (I heard rumors), I will also be excited to check that out.
