Above This Fire (LT Magnotto)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. Poison the Well - Tropic Rot

  2. Ghostface Killah - Ghostdini: Wizard Of Poetry In Emerald City

  3. Black Moth Super Rainbow - Eating Us

  4. Clipse - Till The Casket Drops

  5. Kevin Devine - Brothers Blood

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

I fell in love with Animal Collective this summer. Merriweather Post Pavilion landed at my number six spot for best albums of the year... This CD got most of its plays from me while blasting out of my boombox riding my beach cruiser to the beach/bars with my friends. Lots of awesome late night drunken times flying down main roads in groups of eight with "my girls" blasting, arms out like an airplane and head pointed to the stars feeling like a god.

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

2009 was the year of the late night pizza jammer. Awesome late night after hours parties with friends smashing pizza and wavy dancing all fueled by fresh new music this summer. "T-Rex" by Wallpaper and "Fur In My Cap" by Rob Roy were pizza jammer staples!

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

I was pumped for the Jawbox reunion that just happened! I stopped praying when I was fourteen, but I started again recently with the intent to reunite three of my favorite bands of all time, At the Drive-In, Waxwing and Blue Skies Burning. I'd travel a million miles to see any of those bands reunite. While we're at it, someone tell Codeseven and In Pieces to reunite and release some jams! The streets are ready!

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

2010 is going to be a great year for Above this Fire. We took this summer easy to make room for beach parties, motorcycles, scooters, injuries, and breaking in our new drummer Jon Morgan. The new drummer thing really brings a whole new element to the band that excites me beyond words. We've been jamming steady and writing some really fresh new ATF jams, so get ready for some EP's and a full-length! The new stuff is definitely not going to be a typical hardcore/metal album, that's all I can say at this point!

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

1. Yeasayer - Odd Blood. I hate the fact that the years have turned me into jaded music dude, but it takes a lot to get me pumped on a band anymore. That being said, I saw Yeasayer this year live and had my mind blown. That band is unbelievable live. The new stuff translated awesome to the stage, anxious to hear it recorded!

2. D'angelo. Rumor has it that this will be the year that D'angelo takes it back. I can't wait.

3. Sade. Sade dropped lovers rock in 2001 and forever changed the way I "set the mood." I've been begging for a new album for years and she just dropped a track off her new album "Soldier of Love" which is expected out in early February.
