Bree (Allegedly Records)

SPB:Do you accept demos? What is the most surprising demo you’ve received?

Bree: We do accept demos! Since Amy is on the west coast and I'm on the east coast, this is a great way for us to listen to bands in other areas of the country that we normally wouldn't get to hear. Having good music is only a portion of the formula for us though. We really try to take the time to get to know the members of the band to ensure that working together is a good fit in personality and values as well.

The most surprising demo that we ever received, I would say, would have to be the very first one. When we were just starting out as a label, we were hit up by a band called Bored With Fire. Although they are no longer on the label, we were blown away by their sound. Lyrically they were amazing and their sound fit what we were looking for in a band. They were the first band that we signed without an already established personal relationship. It was a shock to our systems that anyone heard of us, let alone would even be interested in joining our label. We have received quite a few since then, but that first one will always be special to us. I'm also astounded by the amount of international emails that we get. It's crazy and humbling to think that word of our little label has reached places like Australia, Italy, and the Ukraine.
