Coming Down

John Garwood (Coming Down – guitar)

SPB: What is your favorite record store – either locally or something you’ve discovered while traveling?

Garwood: Needle Drop Records in Rochester, NY. I’m a little biased considering the owner, Russ Torregiano, is a long-time friend and brother in rock. I’ve been loitering around the shop since it opened in 2011. Hardcore, punk, metal, indie, jazz, hip hop, etc. The homies got it all. Half of my collection has come from either Needle Drop or the record fairs they host. It moved from its original location in 2023 to a new, larger spot right outside of the city. Simpsons inspired art adorns the wall. Fully equipped with Danzig promotional displays, Slayer hats, old VHS tapes and sometimes a free pizza pie from the juggalo pizza shop down the street. The Needle Drop logo was drawn by legendary NYHC artist Sean Taggart (Agnostic Front, Crumbsuckers) Henry Rollins and Elijah Wood shop there. There are a healthy amount of record shops in Rochester, but Needle Drop is where we kick it. It’s just chill.  That’s what we do.

Each year in late May, the 4-day party and noise-rock festival Caterwaul takes over multiple venues in Minneapolis.
