Coen (Harsh Realms)

SPB: If you had to introduce someone to good music, which five records would be included in the homework assignment you'd give them?

Coen: Something new, something old?

We've been listening a lot to the new record by fellow Dutch punkrockers Antillectual. Their new album Together has been well worth the 7 year wait and sounds really fresh. It's a nice evolution of the punkrock they've been known for. Besides, they're some of the nicest people in the punkrock scene. They deserve every shout out possible.

Secondly, I would say we're madly in love with the new Samiam record (Stowaway). It features some of the catchiest choruses we've heard in a long time.

Our German compadres in Baxter also released a new record that we would really like to recommend. Between Punk And Bourgeoisie features 14 foot on the gas punkrock songs. Give it a spin!

An all-time classic has to be London by Apologies I Have None. An album I keep on coming back to. It just gets better and better. Only anthems. Perfection.

Same goes for On The Impossible Past by The Menzingers. I saw them in concert a few times last week and was happy to find out that they included songs from this album in their set. Loved it!

For some reason I never checked this band out, even though they always had a spot on my to check list. After several years they got lower and lower on that list. CVLT, their new album after six years of silence and nine years after their debut album catapulted them to the top of my list. Could they win me … Read more
