Jenks Miller (Horseback, solo)

SPB: What part of your live show do you find the hardest on sound engineers?

Miller: The biggest challenge in Horseback's live shows is getting the vocals to sit right in the mix. Most bands feature vocals at the front of the mix; I prefer our harsh textures to sit further back and blend with the wide-open, harmonic (i.e. tube amp) guitar sound. This allows the hypnotic repetition of the rhythm to be the focus.

Caterwaul 2025

Each year in late May, the 4-day party and noise-rock festival Caterwaul takes over multiple venues in Minneapolis. It’s a stacked lineup this year, to put it mildly, with each night’s headliners FACS, Young Widows, Naw, Pissed Jeans, and Uniform -- and that’s leaving a ton of other great bands … Read more

Half Blood
Relapse (2012)

I remember distinctly the first time I was introduced to Horseback. It was by their 2012 album Half Blood, and I'm told that my experiences were pretty standard. For the uninitiated, your first few seconds of listening to Horseback will inevitably go something like this:"Hm. This is some pretty interesting post-rocky stuff. Oh, hold on, something's messed up with this … Read more

New Dominions Split
Utech (2011)

This collaboration between Horseback and Locrian was a hotly anticipated one in several musical circles (particular if you were a fan of either outfit prior to hearing of this release), and the prospects of what these two projects might create together induced some mind blowing (think the head explosion scene in Scanners) possibilities in the heads of those of us … Read more
