Middle-Aged Queers

Shaun Osburn (Middle-Aged Queers)

SPB: What was the first concert you went to?

Osburn: I want to parse this out into three different answers, because I think all of them are important milestones in shaping my musical interests and influences.

FIRST CONCERT: Jimmy Buffett. I believe I was six years-old. My dad is still a huge parrothead. I got in trouble at school that year for singing "Why don't we just get drunk and screw?"

FIRST CONCERT I CHOSE: Bangles, "Eternal Flame" tour. I was about 10 years-old and they were playing at the local amusement park. Oingo Boingo opened and stole the show.

FIRST CLUB SHOW: I was 12 so it must have been around 1991 or 1992. There was an all-ages club near my friend's house called Berkeley Square and we chose who to see based on the band names: Nuclear Rabbit, Deftones and Puzzlefish. It was at this show that I learned of 924 Gilman Street, a club that I would later spend all of my teenage years at.
