Produced By A Girl
SPB: The compilation collects a variety of artists -- how did you narrow it down to the final 5 on the album?
I presented the opportunity to over 100 female indie artists. Through demo selection, A&R talks, project synergy discussions and a couple months of roundtables, we narrowed it down to about 5 artists that made the final album. This was a huge project for Produced by a Girl and the first full scale album I ran from overseeing production of the album as a whole, to marketing, engaging press as well as composing my own tracks and providing A&R guidance for the artists.
It was a really special project, and we were excited to gather as a group of female indies in a Femme Frequency, to put together a really amazing album centered around moving from darkness to light and captured by the title of the album Femme Frequency. We highlighted women producers also. I produced all my own songs as Produced by a Girl, aka Mary Knoblock CEO and Founder of Produced by a Girl. We also have an incredible producer on the album, Sadie Belica from The Waking Point. She was lead producer on Into the Light and produced Scars as well. The other female artists Meghan Pulles, Tess Posner and Lil MC, also had extensive backgrounds in music, most had classical training as well in music and are notable artists in the indie and hip-hop rap scene. They all had unique sounds, very talented artistry and a desire to elevate women in the music industry. All artists had to have a notable presence in the industry already, with at least an EP out on all streaming platforms and actively producing, recording or touring, performing etc. It was a blast!
