Lizzie Killian (Teens in Trouble - vocals/guitar/songwriter)
SPB: You’re in North Carolina, but work closely with Asian Man Records in the CA Bay Area, right? How did you get so involved with the label, given the distance between you?
Killian: I'm actually from San Francisco and lived in California most of my life until I moved to Raleigh in 2019. Asian Man Records has always sort of been in my orbit from being in punk bands since high school, and some of my earliest memories of the label have been from my band playing shows with Shinobu in the early 2000s. Looking back, I realize I've seen a bunch of other Asian Man bands without realizing it, like AJJ and Hard Girls, and I recently saw some photos I took when I went to the AMR 20th anniversary show almost 10 years ago. It's wild to see things come full circle, now releasing my music via Asian Man (and even getting the chance to write songs with Mike Huguenor from Shinobu), and I couldn't think of a better home! Definitely feels like family.
When I moved to Raleigh, I got reconnected with the label at the start of the pandemic. At the same time, I started writing songs again after a five-plus year hiatus. I shared my songs with Mike Park and he was stoked!
