SPB premiere: "Nervous System" by Arc Angles

Posted in MP3s on December 15, 2022

Arc Angles has a new EP, Daisy, coming on Jan. 1, 2023. Today, Scene Point Blank is excited to share a new single in advance of next month's release.

"Nervous System" is a post-hardcore track that's equally mathy, melodic and punchy, and is the third single the Los Angeles, CA-based band has shared from the new record. The song showcases time signature shifts and angular riffs while maintaining potent energy that isn't lost in the complexity.

The EP follows 2021's Apocalisp, with Daisy being produced and engineered by Christopher Dwyer (also from the bands Entry & Ghost Idols), and mixed by the one and only J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines).

We caught up with Chris Matalone (bass/vocals) to get the story behind the song:

“Nervous System" is generally about the fragility of our man-made laws, organizations, and structures, and how most of us take for granted that the modern societal framework around us could fall apart at any moment. Over the past few years, the fragility of our so-called order has started to reveal itself in much more visible and stark ways, and I think increasingly people are starting to question the power structures, laws, and norms that have always just seemed to be chugging along, and are now seeing how tenuously it is all held together and how easily things deteriorate back into a modern Dark Ages.

I almost think of the full Daisy EP as a sort of mini-concept album that expands on these concepts, such as of the growing resurgence of saber-rattling, “strong-man” leaders (Song 1 on Daisy: “Hammerhead”), the ease with which huge groups of seemingly otherwise normal people are so easily manipulated into believing outright lies and conspiracy theories, to the point they become violent monsters that lash out against their fellow citizens (song 2 on Daisy: “Absurdity/Atrocity”), how the failed application of technology and artificial intelligence has only exacerbated these negative trends (song 3, the title track “Daisy”), and ends with the perspective of an individual caught up in all this mess and has trouble distinguishing what’s real and what they really believe due the ubiquitous sources of manipulation (song 5 on Daisy: “Gaslight”).”

Daisy will release via Rabbit Rabbit Records/Press. Follow the band on Instagram.

Nervous System Lyrics:

I’m the rich I am the poor
I’m not what you bargained for
I’m the virus I’m the cure
I’m bloodlust

I’m corrupted I am pure
I’m the brute at your front door
I’m the cause worth dying for
I’m love and trust

Wearing the crown
Wearing me out
Wary of you

A war of attrition
And we blotted out the sun
Shaking nervous system
Never bothered anyone
Nervous system

Is this progress? Is this pain?
Is this really happening?
Is anyone listening?
To hearts and minds

Are we mortal? Are we gods?
Famously anonymous
Awfully good, an awful lot
Weaponized

Wearing the crown
Wearing me out
Wary of you
Where are we now?
Wearing the crown
Wearing me out
Wary of you

A war of attrition
And we blotted out the sun
Shaking nervous system
Never bothered anyone
This foregone conclusion

Nervous system
Foregone conclusion
Vulgar people
Thread this needle

Nervous system
Nervous system

A war of attrition
And we blotted out the sun
Shaking nervous system
Never bothered anyone
This foregone conclusion

I'm the wolves at your front door
I’m the cause worth dying for
I'm the wolves at your front door
I’m the cause worth dying for
I'm the wolves at your front door
I’m the cause worth dying for
