SPB stream: Iron Deficiency - Morning in the Burning House

Posted in Records on June 5, 2023

The featured stream of the month is back after a month hiatus.

This June we're please to be sharing Morning in the Burning House by Iron Deficiency, a hardcore band from Lyon, France.

The record is a co-release between several labels: Patient Zero Records, Youth Authority Records, RevHQ, and Ugly and Proud Records and is out now. Listen below to hear the band's unique spin on straight edge hardcore with punk infusions and a lot of politics.

We'd go into depth with our own analysis, but sometimes the band says it for us and, frankly, who can say it better?

We’re Iron Deficiency (before you ask, yes we’re all vegan and the pun is intended) and we come From Lyon, France.

We started making music in 2019, right before COVID.

We’re also straight edge, which is something that influenced a lot of our earlier releases.

We take inspiration from bands like Everybody Gets Hurt, Billy Club Sandwich, Merauder. You can't necessarily feel it because we listen to hardcore as much as punk. We just make spontaneous tracks without necessarily trying to reinvent the genre.

Our first EP, Vehemence came out at the end of 2020 and features two songs which I think really define our sound and mindset : No More is about the horror of the meat industry and Alienation is about substance abuse and how blind is makes us to everything that’s going on in the world.

We just released a full length album Morning in the Burning House. This one, though it also has political charged songs, is much more personal. Most of these songs were written during very difficult personal struggles and deal with mental health matters, grief, yearning for revenge, mourning what was lost and eventually finding yourself again through meeting the right people.

The song "Perfect" has a lot of that in its lyrics. It’s about being let down by the person you trust the most and letting that anger and frustration completely consume you, to the point you become someone no-one  recognizes.

It also features two very good friends of ours : Romain from Cavalerie and Félix, who we’ve been friends with for many years!

So listen here, and order a copy. Vinyl is limited to 300 copies.
