Welcome to our almost daily quickie Q&A feature: One Question Interviews. Follow us at facebook or twitter and we'll post one interview every Monday-Thursday. Okay, sometimes we miss a day, but it will be four each week.
After our social media followers get the first word, we post a wrap up here at the site and archive 'em here. This week check out Q&As with HammerHeart Brewing, The Wild, CJ Ramone, and Kowloon Walled City.
Nathaniel Chapman and Austin Lunn (HammerHeart Brewing)
SPB: What about Bathory’s music is most aesthetically similar to your beers?
Chapman: A simple question requires a simple straight forward answer. I asked Austin, his response: "Epic metal inspires epic beer."
I will add to that by saying that the HammerHeart album was the beginning of the Viking Metal genre. So much of who we are as individuals and as a brewery is based on these old traditions, and metal plays such an important part as the soundtrack to our lives, that it was simply a most appropriate name.
Witt (The Wild)
SPB: Do you embrace the folk/punk genre?
Witt: Sometimes embracing a genre can be very limiting. The amazing thing about the folk/punk world is that there is an incredible amount of freedom to express yourself however you want. Folk/Punk is more than a musical aesthetic to me. It is a community, a mindset, and a loosely defined set of values. There is a lot of diversity in the sound of folk/punk bands. Some bands tend more toward the punk sound and some more towards the folk sound, but I think the most important thing is that we all are kind of working towards the same goals. The music is more of just a rallying point or reason to get together. What happens at the shows and when we share our ideas with each other is the important thing.
I see The Wild as more of a folk-rock band, but the folk/punk community has always embraced and supported us, and I’d like to think we’ve added some sort of positive input to the genre. Scenes and genres get boring when everyone is doing the same thing or striving for the same sound. It’s all of the different voices, sounds, and ideas that really make the folk/punk world unique and that makes it such a beautiful thing. So, we will always embrace the genre, regardless of how our sound changes or how we change as individuals as the band evolves.
CJ Ramone
SPB: In what setting are you least likely to wear a leather jacket?
CJ Ramone: On the toilet.
Scott (Kowloon Walled City)
SPB: Do you think that more bands are getting robbed nowadays? Has it happened to you?
Scott: It seems like lately you read about another band's van getting stolen or broken into every week. Fortunately, it hasn't happened to us yet. We try to be careful. We don't leave our van unattended when it's loaded up, and we unload our gear and merch into the house or hotel we're staying at every night.
