Catchy Denver, CO punk band SPELLS returns, sharing a new tune today in advance of their third LP, which will release on April 11.

We at Scene Point Blank are excited to debut the lead single, “The Sound Remains,” a bouncing dual vocal song that captures their energetic, enthusiastic vibe. The new record is called Past Our Prime.

“'The Sound Remains,' is a slice of garage-influenced punk rock that also hints at the more dynamic and boisterous sound that permeates this latest catalog entry. POP is trademark SPELLS with a balanced amount of evolution that keeps things fresh and fun,” the band tells us.

The band has previously two LPs, a compilation collection, and several flexis and singles along the way. Stimulants & Sedatives was released in 2020.

The new album will be available courtesy of Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings, Rad Girlfriend Records, Big Neck Records, Keep It A Secret Records (Germany), and Shield Recordings (Netherlands). Order it directly from the band here.

Catch SPELLS live at the record release show at Hi-Dive in Denver on April 13.

Calling your record Past Our Prime and then having a song named “Past My Prime” is messing with my head as I write this. But while there is no arguing that SPELLS are a self-aware band, that’s about as much as they’ll really mess with the listener on this record, titled (again), Past Our Prime. Musically speaking, the band play … Read more

If you haven’t seen SPELLS live you’re missing out. It’s a high energy, one-of-a-kind experience -- probably even if you don’t dig the music. Fortunately, I’m into their hook-driven sound that I’ll loosely call pop-structured punk. It gets in your head quickly, but it exactly ain’t crisp and pretty. Sure, the lyrics are often a little light-hearted, but with deeper … Read more

Stimulants & Sedatives

Spells are party punk, pure and simple. And I’m not talking songs about beer and friendship, a la early Pkew Pkew Pkew or Andrew WK. Spells are the life of the party, not just songs about what goes down when the lights dim low.Stimulants & Sedatives is sort of a concept record – it has two sides on the vinyl … Read more
