Adam Lytle (Quicksilver Daydream, Wild Leaves) will soon release his solo debut, to be titled This Is The Fire, out officially on October 20. To share the news, Scene Point Blank has teamed up with Lytle to share the lead single, "Highway Nightmare," a sound as haunting as its name, both chilling and somber at the same time as Lytle contemplates the journey at hand and how one got there. It's ultimately a tale about spinning one's wheels while getting nowhere, he says. It's a brooding mood, befitting for fans of Leonard Cohen or Scott Walker.
"This song has lived many lives since its birth in 2019. It was originally conceived around a synth and drum machine, then became a rock song, before I stripped everything away and centered it around my nylon-string guitar," Lytle says. "I’m always chasing the essence of a song, and that requires a lot of revision. In this case, the stark foundation drove home the hopelessness of the situation and allowed room for Trey Pollard’s arrangements to loom like storm clouds overhead."
The aforementioned Pollard contributed the musical arrangements on the entire record, complimenting Lytle's lyrics with dramatic and orchestral arrangements to help set the mood. Ryan Jewell (Ryley Walker), Scott Colberg (Calexico), James Preston, and Cameron Kapoor all contribute as well.
