The self-proclaimed ‘freak punk’ band Round Eye, made up of Western expats who have made Shanghai their home, will be physically releasing their LP Culture Shock Treatment May 7 on Sudden Death Records. The record blends the early punk sounds of The Stooges with their own flair that prominently features saxophones and a dedication to their own old-school oddities.
Round Eye loudly criticizes the Chinese government and culture across the varied album, an attitude which previously led to touring issues in their adopted home country, most memorably when they resorted to “bunker” gigs in Beijing while on tour with UK punk legends The Boys. The Vice article covering that show, while frequently referenced, may no longer be posted online.
Check out Round Eye on their Facebook page, and you can stream Culture Shock Treatment now on a variety of platforms.
