Abhorrent Expanse: improvised avant metal
Abhorrent Expanse - Gateways To Respondence

Playing a complex genresmashing style of avant/improvisational death metal and featuring members of Zebulon Pike, Celestiial, Obsequiae, Abhorrent Expanse has shared a new song and news of an upcoming record.

The Minneapolis/Chicago 5-piece will release Gateways To Respondence on April 8 via Amalgam Music (cd/digital) and Lurker Bias (cassette, limited). The band shared a single, "Path of Extremal Action," earlier this week, with jazzy time shifts, raw percussion and heavy guitar.

The record itself is ten movements, improvised on Oct. 8, 2020 at Signaturetone Recording in Minneapolis, MN.
"'Path Of Extremal Action' functions as a feature for our resident percussion mastermind Tim Glenn. After a brief introduction, the guitars and bass give Tim room to pound and expound, punctuating his phrases with improvised rhythmic cues modeled after Butch Morris's ‘conduction’ method. The drums and guitars eventually meld into a singular wall of noise, riding the ensuing chaos back into the darkness," says Brian Courage.
