Erica Dawn Lyle, former touring guitarist in Bikini Kill, has a new record out today. The record is called Sympoiesis and features experimental, improvisational guitar mixed with guitar effect loops.
The record was inspired by the death of a protester (by police) in The Atlanta Forest, where local activists have been speaking against a police training facility.
“I played in Atlanta Forest in October and the autonomous zone the protesters had created there together felt truly beautiful. There were a hundred or so young people, everyone dancing all night, all with a sense that everyone understood how special it was to be in such a free space, a sense of how much love they had for each other and the forest and pride in what they had helped to make real there,” Lyle says of her personal connection to the story.
Lyle released Benefit For Northeast Farmers of Color last year, a collaboration with Vice Cooler that included several guest musicians such as Kim Gordon, Kathleen Hanna, The Raincoats, and more.
