Refused, Cult of Luna style

Posted in Records on October 5, 2024

Refused and Epitaph Records are celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Shape Of Punk To Come, originally released by Refused in 1998. In addition to a deluxe repackaging, the label is also releasing The Shape of Punk To Come Obliterated, a tribute album featuring new cover song interpretations. The label shares a drawn-out and heavy AF "Tannhäuser / Derive," courtesy of Cult of Luna, below.

Cult of Luna tells us:

We felt very honored when Refused asked us to cover one of their songs. Not only are they a band that we grew up listening and looking up to but they also were the pinnacle of Umeå hardcore. The scene that was the birthplace of our band. After the recording of The Shape Of Punk To Come I remember Dennis boasting about this 6 min epic song, their “Tannhäuser”.  That’s the reason why I picked the song. If you want “epic” Dennis, we’ll give you epic!!! And thanks for the trust.

Refused recently announced that the band will cease upon a final tour in 2025. Other artists on the tribute include GEL, Quicksand, Fucked Up, Idles, and more.
