Vermont hardcore outfit My Revenge! have announced that they will be calling it quits. The band have planned one more show and will release their third full-length, Strength Through Nonviolence, at said show. The LP will feature new songs and the band's Gay Marriage is Better Than Your Marriage EP, which was previously available only in Europe. The farewell show takes place on April 5th, seven years to the week of their formation, in their home state of Vermont. To read the band's full farewell statement, click "read more."
Just like the spirit of Mr. Rogers will never die, neither will My Revenge. But sometimes the tide changes and you gotta put your surfboard away for a little while and go explore something else, which means that it's time for My Revenge to ride one more wave for one last show and release one final record. Hopefully our spirit of magnificent dysfunctionalism, ridiculous nonsense, and shenanigans will everlastingly glow bright like the Uni-Brow from the Swedish Chef on the Muppet Show. We set out to conquer the world and be the greatest rock band in the world. I'd say we succeeded and for that I am thankful. We toured with the best and only the best: Aerosmith, the color opaque, Bon Jovi, Celine Dion and Van Halen. We've seen a million faces and we've rocked them all. We wrote a song called "If I Ever Wear Sandals, Shoot My Feet Off." We chewed on tires. Thanks to Denise and Chibloqua. At this point in time, members of My Revenge are no longer in a position to continue doing this band. Having become older, we learned how to tune the instruments, and that's utterly not acceptable for this band. Mike Halvorsen has 7 children. (All with red Opie hair); Ryan and Phil recently got a Civil Union and are touring with the first ever Kiss/Misfits tribute band "Walk Among Kiss;" Heaven's Bakery is starring in his own movie: "Coming To A Buffet Near You;" and I, Spencer am the skateboarder version of Dwight from "The Office." We are planning on doing one more show, and releasing our third and final full length record at this show. Our last show is planned for Saturday April 5th 2008 in Vermont. Exactly 7 years to the week that the band began, and not coincidentally, the week of April Fools. If the show happens, and if it is the most off-the-wall, ridiculous, messed up circus show that has ever happened in hardcore punk, than it will be the most off the wall, ridiculous, messed up circus show that you will ever see if you come to it. So bring your skateboard one last time for the spectacle and jolly naked misbehavior that is My Revenge. You cannot get tickets through Ticketmaster. We are releasing one final album. It is called: "Strength Through Nonviolence" and will be 9 songs released through Thorp Records. If it's not 9 songs, than it will be 11 songs. Perhaps even more, maybe like 12 1/2 songs or some mess like that. The album talks about us as humans trying to be more understanding of each other. It is about humanity working towards understanding and forgiveness instead of actions that are violent and destructive. Violence not only resolves nothing, but it cuts into valuable skateboarding time. That is what the new record is about. In the words of Chris Farley: "Anybody can be great, because anyone can serve." or did Martin Luther King say that, doh. Take care of each other, pave over football fields and build concrete skateparks. "Keep your head held high, give as much as you can give, and I believe it will be, something good will come." Spencer, Ryan, Phil, Mike and Eric. -MY REVENGE
