Southern Californias' Bl'ast are certainly not new by any stretch but possibly forgotten by most to the annals of time. Hardcore is a scene that attempts to treasure the past while forgetting certain standard bearers and originators as suits the times. Southern Lord has managed to unearth a forgotten chapter of hardcore history with this record of forgotten and remastered recordings from the bands' It's In My Blood era. This actually exists in a brief period of flux within the band and are made of entirely of recently found recordings.
The cultural oddity of this record exists in where it intersects with the present being the only recordings with one William Duvall who is best known as the current singer of Alice In Chains. In addition this was remastered by Dave Grohl who put some beautiful touches on this.

This is heavy hardcore. It is important to say this is certainly not Metalcore just heavy late 80s hardcore in all its glory. It is probably one of the better introductions a new listener could get of the nastiness and rage that Bl'ast possess. This leaves some of the rough edges without losing the original glory of the recordings. something rare and hard to define without hearing for oneself. A worthy purchase for any hardcore lover.

The Cure

Songs of a Lost World
Capitol, Fiction, Lost Music, Polydor/Universal (2024)

It's been sixteen years since The Cure released their last album. I don't know if anyone really knew what to expect, but it's one of the most influential bands in history so expectations were high. The Verdict? Those expectations were met. It'd be silly to say Songs of a Lost World is a "return to form" as the band and … Read more

So Far Out
Brassneck Records, It's Alive (2024)

There are few bands that hit with the mix of raw emotion and musical talent as a live City Mouse show. There are even fewer bands that can capture that live feeling on a record. It’s been a long 7 years since Get Right, but So Far Out keeps it moving as if no time has passed. Of course, the … Read more

Ideally, I would be a bit more interested in art. In visual art- paintings, sketches, MS Paint monstrosities- whatever. I wish I knew more about the meaning of a brush stroke or even had the desire to know more about the meaning of a brush stroke. I spend a lot of time listening to music and, subsequently, I see a … Read more
