Bob Mould Band – Live At ATP 2008 — Granary Music, 2010

A new live record finds the artist covering all phases of his storied career with whiplash intensity. Husker Du, Sugar and his solo career material are all represented. Mould brings his usual passion and emotion to the proceedings. But the band’s performance here is just as crucial. Richard Morel’s keyboards add depth but don’t overtake the mix. Jason Narducy adds solid bass work and background vocals. Probably his best bassist since David Barbe shared the stage with him. The drums are handled by Jon Wurster (of Superchunk fame) who bashes away with precise chaos. A close to perfect live record, ATP 2008, strips Mould’s songs of their sometimes over-polished studio veneer and instead flips them upside down for us to hear in all their ragged glory.

The Men

Buyer Beware

I wanna say the first time I heard Brooklyn NY’s The Men was back in 2010, ironically around the time I moved back to Vancouver, Canada from Brooklyn. I don’t recall having seen or heard of them when I lived there but that is not surprising. One of the reasons I moved back was that I wasn't going out much. … Read more

Detention

Dead Rock ‘N’ Rollers
Left For Dead Records (2024)

Life ain’t so easy in the detention home- Dead Boys. Emerging from the underbelly of Jersey, made up primarily of three brethren. Raised on rock and roll and sipping from the chalice of early punk rock stalwarts like Da Bruddahs from Queens, Hey Ho! and the Pistoleros of Sexual Nature screaming banshees from across from the large pond. Thus forging … Read more
