Cyvoid are a band out of Britain with a strong sense of the past. This band made up of ex members of zombie fanatics Send More Paramedics among others bring the thrash. Well past the point when they could be called bandwagon jumpers they clearly love their thrash. Similar in a sense to Send More Paramedics, Cyvoid also play with an overarching concept this time being one of a science fiction bent. This tends to help given their chosen musical style. The band was quickly snatched up by Thirty Days Of Night and they have put out this record.

The band clearly have studied up on the thrash of the past playing with speed and precision. Flashing solos and drum fills left and right. The songs move along at rapid pace but only a few parts tend to stick. This is incredibly unfortunate as the the guitar leads and vocals work well together. It feels at times as though the band is trying to include more hardcore into their crossover than they have to.

Knowing Cyvoid's talent there is no doubt in my mind that they can go on to make some great thrash records. Unfortunately this isn't the one. While the EP is enjoyable only half of the record really sticks out.

Post-punk has been one of the most abused terms of the past 2-3 years and it seems to mean wildly different things to different people. To me, it’s always meant an ear for angular guitars and noise atop more traditional song concepts. 1186 … Read more

Shuttle Raven of the Dream
Utech (2025)

Li Jianhong's philosophy surpasses the direct relationship of a musician with their instrument of choice. Instead, Li has advocated for Environment Improvisation, where the urge to create and improvise is established by the artist's surroundings. Looking at Li's website you can find numerous instances that inspired him to settle down and start improvising, drawing energy from the surroundings. The music … Read more

Lineas de Muerte
Shadowplay Records (2025)

Some reviews are written after years of listening to a band and knowing nearly everything about them. Sometimes I listen to a record on repeat for weeks before I even look up the correct song titles – Deseos Primitivos (Primitive Desires) is the latter. This promo came to SPB as literally a one sentence quote about the band and its … Read more
