Kids Explode / Dialogues – Split — Rome Plow, 2006

Rome Plow Records serves up another offering of under the radar music on this split 7". This time around we've got two bands that draw influence from the post-punk scene of the 90's.

Kids Explode hail from Germany and offer up one song, "A Romance in Alcohol." The music sounds like a mixture of guitar-driven indie rock like Minus the Bear and Fugazi and traditional screamo of the Gravity Records roster. The music is up-tempo and definitely had me in a good mood after listening to it. Dialogues, on the other band, call Virginia home and dish out two tracks. Both songs rock in a post-punk way inspired by the likes of At the Drive-In, well their In Casino/Out days.

Being the first time I've heard either of these bands, I found them to be enjoyable. Of the two, I found Kids Explode to be slightly more enjoyable. Definitely pick this up if you're looking for some new music from bands rooted in 90's post-punk/screamo.

Post-punk has been one of the most abused terms of the past 2-3 years and it seems to mean wildly different things to different people. To me, it’s always meant an ear for angular guitars and noise atop more traditional song concepts. 1186 … Read more

Shuttle Raven of the Dream
Utech (2025)

Li Jianhong's philosophy surpasses the direct relationship of a musician with their instrument of choice. Instead, Li has advocated for Environment Improvisation, where the urge to create and improvise is established by the artist's surroundings. Looking at Li's website you can find numerous instances that inspired him to settle down and start improvising, drawing energy from the surroundings. The music … Read more

Deseos Primitivos

Lineas de Muerte
Shadowplay Records (2025)

Some reviews are written after years of listening to a band and knowing nearly everything about them. Sometimes I listen to a record on repeat for weeks before I even look up the correct song titles – Deseos Primitivos (Primitive Desires) is the latter. This promo came to SPB as literally a one sentence quote about the band and its … Read more
