Spain's Looking For An Answer have been around long enough that to play grind is generally to be compared to those who have come before you and possibly just be forgotten by all but the people who are devout listeners. What tends to set the band apart is a defined addition of more tempo changes and death metal related parts. That is not to forget their primary purpose: fury and speed, which the band has in spades.

So this, their 3rd full length and first for Relapse, comes with some anticipation as this is probably the first look most of the North American public has seen of them. The band have a chance to make their intentions clear to the metal-buying consumer. The bottom line is for most it'll probably be good that it's grindcore since, unless you are good with Spanish, you won't know what vocalist Iñaki is saying. Although one may presume that it has something to with death and other death metal-related things. Simply put, the vocals are good but provide nothing out of the norm for the style. Where the band sticks out, as it should be with grind bands, is in the drumming department. The drummer, Moya, not only plays fast and on point but manages, in the blink of an eye, to sneak in fills that are played with intelligence and a steady hand.

When it comes to the songs and production both facets suit the greater whole. It is played and produced cleanly, letting the listener pick out particular parts of the songs while not getting bogged down into the hiss of grit of a lower grade production style. So while the band soldier on throughout the songs parts stick out to the listener and remain strong enough to carry the song rather than relying solely on fury and bluster to make them memorable.

Overall Looking For An Answer don't have the pedigree of Napalm Death or the out and out willingness to get weird as Brutal Truth or Discordance Axis. Instead they act as a younger, faster version of death dealers such as Cannibal Corpse, spraying the blood and limbs all over the place while they up the speed quotient from song to song. When it comes right down to it the band are worth taking notice of if you enjoy your music fast and brutal.

It's been sixteen years since The Cure released their last album. I don't know if anyone really knew what to expect, but it's one of the most influential bands in history so expectations were high. The Verdict? Those expectations were met. It'd be silly to say Songs of a Lost World is a "return to form" as the band and … Read more

There are few bands that hit with the mix of raw emotion and musical talent as a live City Mouse show. There are even fewer bands that can capture that live feeling on a record. It’s been a long 7 years since Get Right, but So Far Out keeps it moving as if no time has passed. Of course, the … Read more

Ideally, I would be a bit more interested in art. In visual art- paintings, sketches, MS Paint monstrosities- whatever. I wish I knew more about the meaning of a brush stroke or even had the desire to know more about the meaning of a brush stroke. I spend a lot of time listening to music and, subsequently, I see a … Read more
