Sitting down with Glinter forces me to ask why loveliescrushing is not more of a go to “band” for my listening habits given the theoretical confluence of sounds that people ascribe to this long running creative duo, but then it just hits me, loveliescrushing has just never hit me at the right time or been fortuitous before with the timing of their releases and my myriad of moods (I understand that this is entirely my problem); but for some reason (maybe the alignment of the stars maybe it is the stress talking) Glinter is their first album that completely won me over tipping my admiration into a somewhat awe.

The first aspect of Glinter that I notice is that the volume on my stereo has to be completely cranked to get the full effect of all of the compositional layers thatloveliescrushing because each sound not only seems to work on its own (heard in the way that “PT. I (Aureate Echo)” seems to introduce each sound the way that some orchestral schools of thought introduce each instrument) as well as together, but some are so subtle and quiet that the volume must be high to here the entire spectrum of sound. The second idiosyncrasy of Glinter that is immediately evident when listening to it is that the album is three expansive and long tracks (much different than most everything else that I have heard from loveliescrushing), and except for the strange dramatic pauses in “PT. II (She Is Above The Clouds)” (I kept looking to see if there was a new track at every pause, particularly because at least one of them was pretty long), the album is a seamless foray into a weird cloud of blissful sound with a dash of uplifting triumph.

Glinter does not vault me into number one super fan status for loveliescrushing, but the album does cajole me into taking more notice of what this duo does as well as making me think that I should probably re-visit the albums of theirs that I have to see if my overall perceptions of this creative project have shifted in a way that the other records might impact me differently now; and for that, I would have to say that Glinter spoke to me in just the right ways to get me to listen more closely to loveliescrushing.

Personality Cult

Dilated
Dirtnap (2025)

I had a hard time starting this review. I can’t help coming back to the fact that it sounds like Marked Men. It does, maybe intentionally so, as Dilated is the second of Personality Cult’s albums that is produced by Jeff Burke of Marked Men and Radioactivity. But I don’t necessarily like to say a band sounds like another band … Read more

Her Head's On Fire/Arms Like Roses - Split
Double Helix (2025)

Her Head’s On Fire (NY, NY) and Arms Like Roses (New Haven, CT) team up on this split 7” with two new tracks (one each band) of post-hardcore tunes that are both massive and melodic in their own distinct ways. "Universal" is the track from Her Head’s On Fire. Recorded by the band’s guitarist Jeff Dean, "Universal" came from the … Read more

Dead Bars

All Dead Bars Go To Heaven
Iodine (2025)

Dead Bars has a unique talent of taking the everyday, the experiences you see and live all the time, and shining a new light on them to make them personal and interesting. I've written about it before, yet it's my job to say this again and to make it interesting. It's what Dead Bars does, so it only seems fitting … Read more
