Stop this Fall performs a unique mix of melodic hardcore and punk. The closest contemporaries that come to mind are The Suicide File and With Honor, but even those are somewhat of a stretch. The songs are structured like the rock/hardcore hybrids that have become increasingly popular recently, but Stop this Fall still finds ways to incorporate more traditional aspects of hardcore into their songs: breakdowns, two-steps, and sing-alongs. Over the course of this EP, the band fluctuates through moments that demonstrate their influences, but it isn't until the last track, 'If Anyone Asks,' that they finally find their own identity. I have a lot of respect for Stop this Fall; they are a band that lives by the DIY ways of the early punk and hardcore scenes. It is a tough business to not only finance for your own recordings, but also to promote it on your own. Despite the fact that Stop this Fall put this album together on their own, the quality of both the recording and musicianship is solid. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.

Post-punk has been one of the most abused terms of the past 2-3 years and it seems to mean wildly different things to different people. To me, it’s always meant an ear for angular guitars and noise atop more traditional song concepts. 1186 … Read more

Li Jianhong's philosophy surpasses the direct relationship of a musician with their instrument of choice. Instead, Li has advocated for Environment Improvisation, where the urge to create and improvise is established by the artist's surroundings. Looking at Li's website you can find numerous instances that inspired him to settle down and start improvising, drawing energy from the surroundings. The music … Read more

Shadowplay Records (2025)

Some reviews are written after years of listening to a band and knowing nearly everything about them. Sometimes I listen to a record on repeat for weeks before I even look up the correct song titles – Deseos Primitivos (Primitive Desires) is the latter. This promo came to SPB as literally a one sentence quote about the band and its … Read more
