I love the PR insert that is included with this one. "First new album in 66 years! Produced by Robyn Hitchcock! No 'special guests' (except Robyn and Peter Buck) Includes 3 DIFFERENT-SIZED helmets." I'm still looking for my helmets, but I know it hasn't been quite that long since the last Young Fresh Fellows record. Scott McCaughey hasn't lost his way with lyrics, right off the bat he pulled me in with a line from "The Guilty Ones" - " got ice in the freezer-not everybody does." "Betty Let the Good Times Crawl" sounds like a Nuggets-era rave-up. "Your Mexican Restaurant" is so spicy I think I need to go get a burrito. The record ends with "Ballad of the Bootleg," which features some cool references to Chris Mars. And that seals the deal for me. A solid effort from Young Fresh Fellows, there may be nothing quite as earth shattering as "The Girls are Here," but its still miles above a lot of other releases out right now.

This promo came to SPB as literally a one sentence quote about the band and its … Read more

The Men

Buyer Beware
Fuzz Club Records (2025)

I wanna say the first time I heard Brooklyn NY’s The Men was back in 2010, ironically around the time I moved back to Vancouver, Canada from Brooklyn. I don’t recall having seen or heard of them when I lived there but that is not surprising. One of the reasons I moved back was that I wasn't going out much. … Read more

Dead Rock ‘N’ Rollers
Left For Dead Records (2024)

Life ain’t so easy in the detention home- Dead Boys. Emerging from the underbelly of Jersey, made up primarily of three brethren. Raised on rock and roll and sipping from the chalice of early punk rock stalwarts like Da Bruddahs from Queens, Hey Ho! and the Pistoleros of Sexual Nature screaming banshees from across from the large pond. Thus forging … Read more
