Scene Point Blank: Are hands the best percussion instruments ever?
Matt Johnson: Hands are definitely crucial. We have had our share of handclaps. I realized that for two songs in a row on our album, the snare drum has been replaced by handclaps. I think that Kim should just get a snare drum that is basically two hands, or a person who can just stand there and clap when she hits them. I think that would be a good replacement for the snare drum. I mean? if you can get a whole crowd doing a handclap, you get a vibe that you just couldn't get any other way.
Scene Point Blank: Are you bigger fans of dancing or ironic dancing?
Matt Johnson: That's a split right down the middle. Kim is a great dancer. Her brother is a rave DJ. She would go out and just dance for like nine hours at a time, through out the night and into the morning. I have absolutely no rhythm. So mine is just pure irony.
Scene Point Blank: How many keyboards do you go through on a regular basis?
Matt Johnson: I started playing on this old 80's keyboard, which I loved, but it could just not drink a beer. I mean if you spilled anything into it, or you sweated on it, or if you vaguely crashed into it, the thing would cop out. So, I finally had to switch from that model to a new one. I've been trying to get a company to make something a little sturdier. Maybe one that's water resistant up to two hundred feet. Not that I plan to take it swimming or anything, but they just haven't been set up as rock and roll instruments. I want a keyboard for the rock around, throw your beer around the room, type of crowd.
