Coliseum / Black Cross

Scene Point Blank: What are your top five albums that were released in 2007?
Hard to narrow it down to five, but randomly...
- Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
- Criminal Damage - No Solution
- Big Business - Here Comes The Waterworks
- New Pornographers - Challengers
- Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (As much as I hate to admit it)
Scene Point Blank: How will you remember 2007? (In terms of music)
Personally I had a great year with recording and releasing Coliseum's No Salvation album and all our great tours, plus finally getting the Black Cross Severance Pays album out as well. At Auxiliary, we had our best year putting out the Coliseum LP, Black Cross CD, Prideswallower, Pusher, Young Widows & Plows split and more... It was a great year personally for me with music and there were a ton of great bands and records out there too.
Scene Point Blank: What kind of impact do you think donation-based releases like Radiohead, Saul Williams, etc? will have on the record industry?
I honestly have very little opinion on that. It seems that it hasn't been found whether that made much sense for those releases in the end. Ultimately I can't imagine that artists will abandon the standard psychical releases of music in favor of solely offering online releases, donation-based or not. It would be truly interesting to see huge bands take things completely out of the hands of the major labels, but that seems unlikely to happen.
Scene Point Blank: 2007 saw the decommissioning of two prominent file-sharing groups - Demonoid and Oink. What kind of impact will the increased crackdown on file-sharing have on the record industry? Did it personally have an effect on you?
It had no effect on me. Until reading this question I had never heard of either group. I can count the number of albums that I have downloaded from file sharing groups on one hand. I have shared a lot of music between friends via iPod, iTunes, Podworks, etc, but I continue to buy a lot of CDs and LPs and all my favorite records are tangible releases that I actually own.
Scene Point Blank: What can we look forward to from your band in 2008?
Lots of touring and possibly a new 7" sooner or later!
Scene Point Blank: What three records are you looking forward to most in 2008?
Young Widows, Torche, and the new John Reis band.
