Coalesce

Scene Point Blank: What are your top five albums that were released in 2007?
- Able Baker Fox - Voices
- Demon Hunter - Strom the Gates of Hell
- The Out Circuit - Pierce the Empire with a Sound
- Patton Oswalt - Werewolves and Lollipops
Scene Point Blank: How will you remember 2007? (In terms of music)
I probably will remember it for the RIAA and how the record industry is attacking the very people who buy their records.
Scene Point Blank: What kind of impact do you think donation-based releases like Radiohead, Saul Williams, etc? will have on the record industry?
I hope to God that it catches on with bigger mainstream bands. I hope the practice of releasing records like this becomes so mainstream so that all bands can take advantage of it, since music consumers would be used to the idea. I would like nothing more than to see the record industry fall apart and have to reinvent itself for the better.
Scene Point Blank: 2007 saw the decommissioning of two prominent file-sharing groups - Demonoid and Oink. What kind of impact will the increased crackdown on file-sharing have on the record industry? Did it personally have an effect on you?
Well, I see it as a cat and mouse game. People are still going to "steal" the music, and people are still going to use the service to discover new bands and then buy the CD's. I don't see any stopping it.
Scene Point Blank: What can we look forward to from your band in 2008?
Well, hopefully the new record will be completed. But we all know how Coalesce talk goes, so I'll stop talking.
Scene Point Blank: What three records are you looking forward to most in 2008?
Unless Sufjan Stevens, Tool, and the original Misfits lineup have something planned, I can't think of any. But I don't know who has records planned. Maybe Isis is doing one? Or Big Business? I would look forward to those two.
