Night Owls (Grant Johnson)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. Trapped Under Ice - Secrets of The World

  2. Converge - Axe to Fall

  3. BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa - Man From Deep River

  4. Marked Men - Ghosts

  5. Iron Age - The Sleeping Eye

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

Julian Casablancas' solo record is really enjoyable and sounds like some future yacht rock or like a dollar bin record from the ?80s that would be a guilty pleasure. Plus it reminded me how much I like the Strokes, so I've been listening to a lot of both.

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

Frustratingly. It took almost nine months for Night Owls' record to come out due to complications with literally every part of the process. Plus I had no time for shows or records or often music listening because of school, but I don't regret it in the least. The circumstances of life often change and that's okay. I've heard enough records anyway.

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

I am not excited by reunions. I want to see less current boring bands, and that doesn't mean bringing back old bands for some teenage nostalgia trip for me, or them.

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

Night Owls is in the process of writing new material, and will hopefully be able to play out more once I am done with my master's in May 2010 (assuming I am done then!).

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

Oak & Bone LP, White Guilt 7", and Scapegoat LP
