Chris (Caulfield)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)
I can't put them in order, or think of a "legitimate" top 5, but here are some of my favorites from this year...
- Surroundings - s/t LP
- The Sword - Warp Riders
- High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
- Seraphim - s/t 7"
- Electric Wizard - Black Masses
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Graveyard from Sweden and True Widow from Dallas. Both of those bands are incredible, and if you haven't heard them you should stop reading this and listen to them right now.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
I probably won't remember much more than the shit that I did, and that might be pushing it.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
I think word-of-mouth shows are still very prevalent in punk and hardcore today. However, with the rising popularity of shit like digital releases/iTunes/bandcamp/whateverthefuck, and of vinyl and cassettes, I don't think physical cds will have a place for much longer.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
All we have planned as of right now is a fest in Kamloops, BC in August with Contagium, Black Wizard, Fear of Tomorrow, and a bunch more. My other band, Rape Whistle, is doing a ten day west coast tour with In Desperation from Jan 3rd-13th. So there is a ton of room for other things to be planned. Hopefully touring and at least one new release will happen.
What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?
I'm not sure what all is coming out next year, but these are some friends' records that are so be on the look out-
- Seraphim - Light in the Distance (A389 Records)
- In Desperation - Hymns
- Former Thieves - The Language That We Speak (No Sleep Records)
