Larry (Think Fast! Records)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)
- Sick Of It All - Based On A True Story
- Ed Kowalczyk - Alive
- Hour Of The Wolf - Decompositions: Volume 1
- This Is Hell - Weight Of The World
- Ice Age - Dead Kings
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Mountain Man is a band that our label had been talking to all year about doing a record with us. They are just a hardworking band that appreciates the opportunities that come their way. It is refreshing to work with bands like that who are making music and involved in hardcore for the right reasons. That is, even if their drummer strictly listens to Disney-related artists, ie. Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Jonas Bros.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
Ugh.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
The only physical copy of a hardcore or punk band's music that is still relevant is vinyl. Yes digital methods have taken over, but for this genre of music, a physical copy is still very important. However, that is no longer the CD format. For us (Think Fast! Records), it has been almost 2 years since we've actually paid for a new release to be pressed on CD.
As for word-of-mouth shows, I'm afraid that with all the big fests all over the country where you can see all your favorite bands in one shot, that the smaller or local shows are becoming weaker. Kids don't seem to come out as much anymore. They are easier to miss.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
I am very proud of the fact that September 2011 marks the 10 year anniversary of Think Fast! Records. We have a slew of new records already mapped out for the entire year. I'm sure we'll throw in another couple here or there. Expect the Mountain Man full length in early 2011 as well as records from Hour Of The Wolf, Bullet Treatment, and our 10 year anniversary comp which will showcase some exclusive material from some of the many bands we've released over the years. There are also a few we haven't announced yet that we're putting the finishing touches on. Stay
tuned.
