SPB: What was your favorite release of your label in 2006 (including anything that will be released by the end of the year)? Why?

Fucked Ups Hidden World double LP, though under license from another label, Hidden World is a monster release. Besides the fact that the music is incredible, its been a work in progress for a number of years for both the band and I (to release this full length.) It just so happens that its over 72 minutes long, double LP gatefold. Packaging wise, I am glad that the first press is now circulating cause it was an expensive record to release and a difficult format to work with because of storage, weight, postage etc.

SPB: How will you remember 2006? (in terms of music)

The year shitty punk metal became mainstream.

SPB: What do you see as the role of labels in 2007 and beyond?

My role is to release music from bands I am interested in working with. I support this process by funding recording cost and promoting these releases and bands. The only noticeable difference for 2007 will be an increase in exposure for the label and affiliated bands. Deranged is now a somewhat recognized name in punk/hardcore and its getting easier for me to get reviews, interviews and general interest in my labels activity. A shit load more promotion is going to take place in 2007 and new distributors/stores carrying my releases.

SPB: Top five releases of 2006? (not on your label)

  1. Jay Reatard - Blood Visions
  2. Reigning Sounds - Orphans LP
  3. The Marked Men - Fix My Brain
  4. 86 Mentality - On The Loose 7"
  5. Fucked Up - Black Cross & Black Army 7"s

SPB: Any previews/hints/facts of what you will be releasing in 2007?

God...lots of releases in store for 2007. Dont want to bother talking about records that have not yet been recorded but for sure coming out in 2007 are: Brutal Knights new LP/CD, Tranzmitors LP/CD, Nitad 7", Left for Dead DVD, Haymaker comp. CD, Observers comp CD, and Terminal State CD. These should all see the light of day by spring. For the rest, you will need to check the website once in a while: www.derangedrecords.com.

SPB: Whats your main goal of 2007 (labelwise)?

Just continue what I have been doing. I have a good thing going so why mess with that. Its been 6 years now since I started DERANGED and in the context of hardcore/punk, its a success.

SPB: Predictions of trends in 2007 (music related (and more if you want))?

Punk and hardcore becoming even more mainstream...blah.
