Andrew Seward (Against Me!)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)
5. Torche - 'Songs For Singles'
From Floor to Torche.....Steve has the voice of an angel and can do no wrong. Record is super short, but I dig how it's a quick kick in the ass that leaves you wanting more.
4. Off With Their Heads - 'In Desolation'
Uplifting songs about warm summer days and ice cream. I hear their singer hates you.
3. The National - 'High Violet'
At first I didn't think I was going to be able to get into this record like I did 'Boxer'.......but I kept putting it on, and on, and on. I've listened to this record almost everyday for months. "I was afraid that I'd eat your brains". Classic.
2. Franz Nicolay - 'Luck and Courage'
Franz is a great musician and an awesome guy. Great and original record. He's a pal of mine, so I'm biased. Whatever, it's my list ya ding dong.
1. Soundtrack to 'Red Dead Redemption'
First off...get this on double red vinyl. Amazing spaghetti western instrumentals, William Elliot Whitmore, and the only videogame soundtrack I've ever put on my Ipod. Oh yeah, the game is by far the best game of the year. Posse Up!
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
I listened to Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' a whole lot in 2010. I kinda knew the record, but I never appreciated it to it's fullest until 2010. Why? I have no fucking idea.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
My best memory is seeing the FLOOR reunion show in Gainesville. Don't know who FLOOR is? Well, look it up. It's for your own good. Anyways, the show was spectacular. You could say I was floored. ouch.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
Word of mouth will always be the most important tool for a band. I will always seek out a band if a friend tells me that I should. It's the best way to find new bands. CD's are pretty dead. Vinyl still rules, and Vinyl with digital download cards really rule.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
We're going to hit the road and play all over. Hopefully, we'll make a new record as well.
What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?
The new Ninja Gun EP, Hopefully a new Future of the Left record. That's it. Only two for now. I cheated.
