What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)
- Against Me - White Crosses
- Los Campesinos - Romance is Boring
- The Dopamines - Expect the Worst
- RVIVR - LP
- Johnny Foreigner - You Thought You Saw a Shooting Star
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
I think I discovered Johnny Foreigner in 2010. Maybe it was late 2009. Let’s call it 2010. I think “an impact on my life” is pushing it, but I really, really got into that band and devoured their catalogue immediately. It’s always a great feeling to stumble across an amazing band you’ve never heard of, and then to realize they have tons of songs and albums you’ve never heard before. Johnny Foreigner is significant, I guess, because they’re the first band in two or three years that had that effect on me.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
On a personal level I’ll remember the two albums I played on (Off With Their Heads and Gateway District) and some of the touring I did (primarily Europe); as a fan I’ll probably remember the five albums listed above as well as discovering some new stuff.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
CDs, in the long run, probably not. Word of mouth shows, sure. If you mean “word of mouth” literally, then maybe not, but in the classic sense of a show with no overt promotion, then absolutely. In some ways there’s more shows than ever like that. I consider a, “Hey, show tonight at the Shit House, the Shitters are opening,” message posted on Twitter to basically be a ‘word of mouth’ show, when you compare it against an actual promotional campaign or what not.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
A new album and some tourin’.
What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?
Lemuria, Screeching Weasel, Copyrights
