What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
More of a rediscovery in light of recent deaths. The recently deceased Captain Beefheart and his 1967 debut Safe As Milk as well as the contributions of the late Guru as half of Gang Starr. RIP brothers.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
More analog synths and fewer broken guitars in my basement.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
Hopefully a vinyl/digital paradigm will supplant CDs, which no one should pay for ever. There is always an essential place for DIY culture, no to be conflated with shitty shows that no one hears about until the last minute; I can only assume that no touring band wants their show to be discovered "word-of-mouth," but rather properly promoted and enthusiastically attended.
