- Shipping News - One Less Heartless To Fear
- Sparklehorse & Danger Mouse - Dark Night Of The Soul
- Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Last year I became completely obsessed with Crime & The City Solution and that continued into this year in a big way for me. I had never heard the band prior to my brother telling me about them in 2008 or 2009 and they’ve had more of an impact on me than any other band in the last four of five years.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
I always use the activities and releases of my band to keep track of the timeline of my life, so this year will always be musically associated with our House With A Curse album, joining Temporary Residence, recording at Inner Ear in DC, and all the great shows we played. A very great year.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
I imagine CDs will be completely gone in about five years, if it even takes that long. Word of mouth will always have a big impact on live music attendance, but it seems like physical advertisement for shows is already becoming less prominent as people use things like online “invites” instead of actual posters and flyers.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
We have a handful of new songs recorded and they’ll be released by Temporary Residence in some form in 2011. We’ll definitely be touring and we will probably start working on material for our fourth LP this year as well. The mission continues. We’re also working on orchestrating a fake break up so we can reform in a few years with increased popularity, higher financial gains, and legendary status.
What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?
The new Young Widows is awesome and I’ll enjoy seeing people try to categorize it without any proper frame of reference, I’m also looking forward to the next Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Trail Of Dead records.
